sarah keppler quilt square

For my quilt square I did Eli Whitney's cotton gin. The flag represents how the south's cotton profit relied on the cotton gin. The hand chained to the cotton gin represents how even though the slaves no longer had to separate cotton by hand, the profit of cotton made them more valuable then ever. The maps represent that cotton was only grown in the south. The white dots with a brown background represent cotton and the pictures in the middle represent the cotton gin itself.
