On November 6th 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president. The North did not have close to as many slaves as the South. Republicans were known for not liking slavery. Everyone knew it was a war on or about slavery even the slaves. Lincoln really did not believe in slavery. December 20th 1860 South Carolina left the Union. By February 1st 1861 six more states joined the Confederacy and left the Union, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. Those states leaving caused the nation to secede. The war on slavery had begun.
