The American Civil War meant and did a lot to the slaves life's. No southern state voted for Lincoln. They thought that he would abolish slavery and essentially they were correct. The south loved slavery because they did all the work. In the beginning few months of the war slaves escaped from the south to the union, but then the union led them back to their slave holder. George B. McClellan and Henry W. Hallack went to prevent southern states from slavery. As you can guess, it didn't end in till the end of the war.
