These pics represent the severe # of casualties in the battle.   

              The battle of Antietam was the bloodiest single day battle in American history. With 23,000 casualties. It was the first major battle in the Civil War to take place on Northern soil. Fought on September 17th, 1862, starting at 5:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm later that night. This battle was part of what is known as the Maryland Campaign of 1862. The two fighting commanders was the confederate general Robert E. Lee and Union Major General George B. McClellan. The victory was inconclusive, but the Union won strategically.
