Kirsten Johnson's artist statement- Indigo's class

For my quilt piece I have decided to do the Constitution of the United States of America. In the back ground of my quilt I have three colors, red, white, and blue (the American flag colors). On top of the background I have pictures of things relating to the constitution. These things include the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. I also have pictures of the Presidential seal, the constitution (of course), information about the executive branch, and how checks and balances works. The executive branch enforces the laws, the legislative branch writes the laws, the judicial branch determines whether the law is consistent with pre-existing laws and whether the law has been violated, and checks and balances make sure that a branch does not gain to much power. The Constitution was established because there were little to no laws and there needed to be some kind of government structure. When the Constitution was made it was helping a lot of citizens of the United States, however it was not helping illegal immigrants. The Constitution has made it so that one state cannot become more powerful then another state, so in many ways it has helped us keep balance between states. The Constitution was signed by 39 people, some including Benjamin Franklin, James McHenry, William Few, and Roger Sherman. The Constitution is important because without it we would not be where we are today. It might be that some states hold a lot of power and riches and other states will be poor and powerless. Let us thank that we have the Constitution.
Thank you for reading my artists statement, I hope you enjoyed it.
