Religion in the Civil War- Amanda Macready-Santos, Deborah Nass

Religion was important to most soldiers in the North and the South.  Between 100,000-200,000 Union troops accepted religion. At the start of the civil war there were more than 53,000 churches! 40% (almost 32,000,000) people were members of faith traditions. 80% of Americans visited catholic churches or denominationally protestant churches regularly. February 8th 1861 the south side was confirmed it was christian.
