Nat Turner rebelion 1831 Devlin/Dylan Sarah's office

Nat Turners rebellion was caused because he had visions and heard voices from god telling him to fight and start a rebelion. An excplipse was the sign that he should strike. A few days later, him and 7 other slaves sneaked into his masters house and killed him and his family. Nat then went from house to house killing whites and gathering followers. Soon the rebelion was 75 slaves strong. They killed 55 to 60 white men, women and children. Non were spared. The local miltia defeted the slaves. Nat and other slaves fled. Nat was found days later in a fenced hole still alive. He carried a light sword, but quickly gave up because the white man who found him was carring a shotgun. Nat was killed by hanging on August 21, 1831.
