Eli Whitney's Cotton Gin/ Rebecca Rogers, Whitney Novick, Nathan Hamilton/ Tara's office

In 1793 in Georgia, Eli Whitney invented the cotton engine with good intentions of using less slaves for cotton sorting. His intentions backfired and made cotton a bigger industry that required more slaves to manually turn cotton sorting devices. Eli’s invention became popular in Georgia and many other southern states. The demand for slaves increased which tore the nation apart.
