Artists Statement: Marina for Dylans Office

For my second quilt square i worked with clay, we choose to do it on the casualties that poor sanitation, disease wounds and badly trained doctors cause in the civil war. The doctors that were sent out in the battles treat soldiers had only a few tools including a saw and a  tourniquet. The doctors did not wash their hands in between patients and very few of the people lived. A lot of the soldiers knew about the bad medical conditions and decided they would rather die in battle then in a disgusting hospital. Our quilt square shows a battle scene with the dead and the wounded, the black and white shows how much death and pan there was. Nothing was really colorful it was a very very sad time
