Artist Statement- Sunday McLean- During the War

Our quilt square depicts a scene typical of battlefield hospitals. There are explosions from cannons in the background, then a doctor or surgeon's tent in the middle, and a man on an operating table in the foreground. There is a pile of limbs next to the table. The contrast between black and white and color give the feeling of the difference between dead and alive, hope and despair. Makeshift hospitals always were very dreary. We hope the quilt square gives you the right impression.
