Richard Jordan Gatling is the inventor of the now popular war instrument known as the Gatling gun
it was patented in 1862, it was not used until 1865 at the battle of Petersburg Virginia.
The exclusive right granted by a government to an inventor to manufacture, use, or sell an invention for a certain number of years.
